Snow in the North Georgia Mountains

The north Georgia mountains woke up to a light dusting of snow this morning.
It was beautiful on the rolling hills at Cadence. And it looked as though a
white blanket had fallen on the roof of the barn, and along the road that
takes us to the miles of riding trails on the ridge and beyond.

Pasture turn-out an exercise in horsemanship skills

Each day the horses who board at the Cadence barn are turned out in paddocks
for exercise. Sometimes they are walked out individually or in pairs by an
intern or trained employee. And sometimes they’re taken out by Dave Seay
with the help of one of his horses, Dove or Santee.

Whatever the case, it is always an exercise in good horsemanship. The
horses are trained not to be pushy and they are expected to lead
respectfully on a soft lead.

The attached photos demonstrate good horsemanship and rope handling skills.
All the horses are leading respectfully from the paddock to the barn.

Dressage

I can honestly say that until tonight I did not know what dressage was. I knew that it was some sort of “discipline” and it involved getting a horse to act a certain way. I have many times heard Deb talk about dressage so I decided to learn about it. I found this video, I will say its pretty amazing.

It’s a cool October day in the North Georgia mountains and Deborah “Deb” MacCarthy and Molly, one of her five dogs, watches horses trot around the indoor arena at Cadence, a new equestrian community outside of Blue Ridge. Wearing jeans, a white turtleneck, a vest and boots, MacCarthy is dressed in her current work attire, a far cry from the high heels and suits she donned for nearly two decades as a marketing executive for The Coca-Cola Co. “I can’t believe I ever wore pantyhose and ran around airports in high heels” says the 55-year old MacCarthy….

Kids Lessons

Every Sunday in February Cadence will be offering lessons for the kids. Who says the winter months have to be dull? Come on out to the barn at Cadence for a little fun. All lessons will be taught by Jane Haddow.

January 18-20 & February 15-17Individual problem solving in a group setting with Dave Seay
Feb 22-24 – Horsemanship Training Camp for Experienced Riders with Dave Seay
Those with skills and desire to progress to internships and apprenticeships with Dave will be selected at the end of the week. Each clinic begins with Friday night lecture/group discussion & dinner at Cadence. All day Saturday and Sunday work sessions. $300/person
March 1-2 – Dressage Clinic. More info to come.

Cadence can provide overnight accommodations for you and your horse.

TRAINING
